Help...
I Lost my Job!
Losing your job can be one of life's most traumatic experiences. How will I pay my bills? Where will I find a new job? How do I begin my search? This section of the Arizona Workforce Informer is designed to be a guide to provide information to help you through this difficult time.
Unemployment Insurance Benefits
One of the first things you should know is that recent unemployment insurance data shows the average duration of unemployment is about 15 weeks (almost 4 months)! While this may seem like discouraging news to give someone who lost his or her job, being forewarned can help you plan accordingly. That's why the first section of this guide provides information about Unemployment Insurance (UI) Benefits. UI Benefits can prove to be very important during this time. It is hard to look for work if you don't have enough money to put gas in the car or even buy bus tickets!
Stretching Your Unemployment Check
UI Benefits replace only a fraction of lost wages (maximum $240/week), so information on other assistance programs are included here to help you find ways to stretch the already strained budget during times of unemployment.
Job Search Resources
Of course, the ultimate solution to losing a job is to find another one. While the Arizona Workforce Informer does not list job openings, links are provided to various resources to help in your job search. Included here are links to local One Stop Career Centers, job banks, job fair listings, and an employer database. In addition to the links, guidance and tips are provided for maximizing the services available through the job banks, tips for job fairs, and how to use the employer database to network and tap into the "hidden job market."
What resources are available for job training? How do I find out about them? Do I qualify for any training? Do I need job training or can I find another job with skills I already have? This section provides links to agencies that can help you answer such questions.
Links to Labor Laws
If you need help researching labor laws, these Internet-based labor law references should be useful. Information on most of the common labor law issues can be found through these links. This resource is provided for informational purposes only and is not intended as a substitute for professional assistance. If you believe that you have been treated unfairly, please seek professional guidance.
